Less than ten percent of the plastic that is produced in the world every year is being recycled. Certain plastics take hundreds of years to degrade in nature and end up as harmful microplastics that can be absorbed in the organism of humans, plants, and animals.

By 2050 the amount of plastic waste in the oceans will exceed the collected biomass of fish in the sea.
